⚠️ SPOILER WARNING: This review contains light spoilers for You + Me: Against The World. I won’t ruin every twist — because you know I want you to go and watch it for yourself — but we ARE going to talk about some important moments, the ending and what the Toi + Moi books could mean for Alma and Vadim’s future.

Prime Video’s You + Me: Against The World might look like another rich-good-girl-meets-troubled-bad-boy romance. It isn’t. Alma and Vadim’s story has secrets, family pressure, class differences, mystery, heartbreak and an ending that practically begs for another film.
And yes, I absolutely frigging loved it.
Prime Video, THIS Is How You Start a Friday
There are some films that arrive at exactly the right time.
It’s Friday morning. We’re all ready for the weekend — well, most of us — and then BAM. Prime Video casually drops a brand-new romance.
An extra little Friday gift.
And what a gift You + Me: Against The World turned out to be.
This is exactly the kind of romance I want more of: gorgeous chemistry, familiar tropes, characters I became genuinely invested in and enough going on outside the central relationship to make me want to know more about these people.
More of this please, Prime.
Because Alma and Vadim? I’m absolutely not finished with you yet.

Consider this your teaser before you hit play. ❤️🔥
What Is You + Me: Against The World About?
You + Me: Against The World, originally titled Toi+Moi – Seuls contre tous in French, follows 18-year-old Alma Lancaster (Vittoria Di Savoia).
On paper, Alma has everything.
She comes from a wealthy family, has a seemingly perfect future ahead of her and parents who believe she’s studying law.
There’s just one problem.
Alma doesn’t want the life they’ve planned for her.

She’s secretly given herself a year to pursue what she actually loves: filmmaking.
Enter Vadim Arcadi (Lucas Barski).
He’s 20, rebellious, mysterious, without Alma’s privileged upbringing and carrying considerably more baggage than he initially lets on.
When Alma and Vadim are forced to work together on a student film, they don’t exactly hit it off.
Until they do.
And then they really do.
But while their attraction becomes increasingly difficult to ignore, someone is watching them — and anonymous threats begin putting both their secrets and their relationship at risk.
Prime lists the 2026 film at 1 hour 34 minutes, with Manon Gaurin directing and Vittoria Di Savoia, Lucas Barski and Zoé Garcia among the principal cast.
Rich Good Girl + Poor Bad Boy… But Don’t Write It Off Yet
Let’s talk tropes.
Because You + Me: Against The World certainly isn’t pretending it has reinvented romance.
We’ve got:
🖤 Rich girl / poor boy
♠️ Good girl / bad boy
♣️ Opposites attract
🖤 Forbidden love
♟️ Forced proximity
♦️ Class differences
♠️ Family expectations
🔒 Secrets
🖤 First love
♟️ Troubled hero
🕵️♀️ Romantic suspense
Basically, feed it directly into my romance-loving veins.
But here’s the thing.
If you reduce Alma and Vadim to “rich good girl falls for poor bad boy”, you’re doing the story a disservice.
That’s the wrapper.
There’s considerably more underneath it.
The original book description actually sets up the contrast beautifully: Alma has wealth, family and a life already decided for her, while Vadim has neither family nor attachments. She’s trapped by everything she has; he’s obsessed with remaining free because of everything he doesn’t.
And THAT is far more interesting.
Their different worlds aren’t merely there to make their romance forbidden.
They’re fundamental to who these two people are.

Alma Is More Interesting Than the Typical “Rich Girl”
This is one of the things I really appreciated.
Alma’s privilege isn’t ignored. She’s enormously fortunate compared with Vadim.
But money hasn’t bought her freedom.
Her future has essentially already been written for her. Her father expects law. There’s a family path to follow. Alma secretly studying filmmaking therefore isn’t just a convenient way of getting her into a classroom with the hot bad boy.
It’s her first proper act of rebellion.
She wants to create.
She wants to understand human emotion and put that emotion on screen.
And then, rather wonderfully, she meets someone who gives her quite a lot of emotion to work with.
Hello, Vadim.
👀 DID YOU KNOW?
Alma actress Vittoria Di Savoia isn’t only making waves on screen — she’s also a member of Italy’s House of Savoy. You + Me: Against The World marks her screen debut.

And Vadim Isn’t Just There to Look Broody
Although…
Let’s not pretend that doesn’t help.
😂
Vadim could very easily have become Romance Bad Boy #4,726.
Dark hair. Mysterious past. Doesn’t talk much. Looks at the girl intensely.
We’ve been here before.
But gradually we learn why Vadim lives the way he does and why trusting somebody like Alma isn’t simple for him.
The difference in their backgrounds stops being cute trope material once we understand what his life has actually looked like.
And that’s when the relationship starts gaining weight.
Alma represents a world Vadim doesn’t belong to. Vadim represents a freedom Alma has never really had.
No wonder they’re drawn to one another.
Vittoria Di Savoia and Lucas Barski Make It Work
You can have the best romance script in the world, but if I don’t believe the two people desperately want each other, you’ve lost me.
Thankfully, Vittoria Di Savoia and Lucas Barski have chemistry.
And I don’t just mean the kissing.
Although we’re certainly not complaining about that.
It’s the looks.
The hesitation.
The little moments where they’re trying very hard to pretend something isn’t happening when we can all see that something is VERY MUCH happening.
Their physical attraction is obvious, but there’s also vulnerability underneath it, particularly as both characters start revealing parts of themselves they’d rather keep hidden.
That’s what sold Alma and Vadim to me.
🍿
A Fun Fact: This Is a Pretty Big First for Prime Video France
Here’s something you might not realise while watching.
You + Me: Against The World is Prime Video’s first French Young Adult Prime Original film.
That’s a fairly significant distinction.
The movie launched globally on September 18, 2026, with Prime making it available across more than 240 countries and territories.
And its source material isn’t some obscure romance Prime happened to find.
The Toi + Moi books by Emma Green have sold nearly one million copies in France.
Prime has already found international audiences for European romance adaptations, and now France gets its turn.
And if this is the beginning?
I’m listening.
🍿
Emma Green Isn’t Actually One Author
Here’s another fun fact.
Emma Green is the pseudonym used by two French female authors.
The writing duo has become well established within French New Romance, with Toi + Moi among their best-known stories.
Which makes Alma and Vadim’s journey from French romance phenomenon to a Prime Video movie being streamed around the world rather lovely.
And the books are where things get really interesting.
Seuls contre tous gives us Alma and Vadim’s university love story — the story adapted by Prime Video. But Emma Green’s wider Toi + Moi story doesn’t end there. L’un contre l’autre jumps forward twelve years, where Alma lands her dream job at King Productions and discovers its billionaire boss is none other than her first love: the formerly broke and rebellious Vadim Arcadi — now Vadim King, a powerful figure in the film industry.
In other words, the movie we’ve just watched could essentially be the origin story for a much bigger Alma and Vadim romance.

The Movie Isn’t Necessarily the Whole Alma & Vadim Story
Right.
This was the point where my ears REALLY pricked up.
Because after watching the film, my immediate response was:
There’s more… right?!
Thankfully, yes.
The current Toi + Moi collection includes Seuls contre tous, L’un contre l’autre and Envers et contre tout.
But their chronology is particularly interesting.
Seuls contre tous tells the story of Alma and Vadim meeting at university.
Other Toi + Moi material follows adult Alma and Vadim after years apart. One description of L’un contre l’autre has Alma landing a dream job at King Productions — only to discover that the billionaire boss is somebody she already knows extremely well.
Vadim.
The broke, rebellious student has become Vadim King, a powerful figure in the film industry.
And Alma hasn’t seen him for twelve years.
EXCUSE ME?!
Prime Video.
You have my attention.
⚠️ Let’s Talk About That Ending
This is where the spoilers get a little stronger, so if you haven’t finished the film yet:
GO WATCH IT AND COME BACK.
Still here?
Right.
One reason I desperately want another instalment is that this movie doesn’t give Alma and Vadim the comfortable little romantic bow we might expect.
Vadim’s past finally catches up with him in spectacular fashion.
The threats are connected to the darker world he’s been trapped inside, and eventually Vadim finds himself taking the blame for something much bigger than the rebellious-boy image Alma first encountered.
Alma turns to the one person with enough power to potentially help him:
her father.
And that help comes with a brutal price.
She must abandon filmmaking, follow the future her family originally wanted for her…
and give up Vadim.
And I think this is where the film’s central theme comes full circle.
Alma spends the story fighting to choose her own life.
Then, when somebody she loves desperately needs her, she sacrifices that freedom.
That’s far more painful than simply having them break up because of a misunderstanding.

That Final Tease Changes Everything
Because You + Me: Against The World doesn’t quite finish there.
Later, Vadim has survived.
His circumstances have changed.
And he hasn’t forgotten Alma.
Far from it.
The closing moments point directly towards him finding her again.
And once you know what happens in the wider book story — adult Alma encountering a dramatically transformed Vadim after years apart — that final tease becomes VERY interesting indeed.
Suddenly this first film feels less like a complete romance and more like:
the Alma & Vadim origin story.
And I LOVE that idea.

Will There Be You + Me: Against The World 2?
Here’s the question everyone is going to be asking.
As of September 18, 2026, Prime Video has not officially announced a sequel to You + Me: Against The World.
So let’s not turn wishful thinking into news.
However…
There is clearly more source material available, and Prime itself describes the movie as an adaptation of Emma Green’s bestselling trilogy.
The first film also deliberately leaves Alma and Vadim’s future unresolved.
So could Prime continue their story?
Absolutely, the material exists.
Has Prime confirmed that it will? Not yet.
Do we want a sequel?
No.
At this point…
WE DEMAND ONE.
Because if you’re telling me there’s a version of this story where we get an older Alma reunited with the broke bad boy she loved at university — except he’s now a powerful cinema boss after they’ve spent years apart…
I NEED THAT FILM.
Immediately.
Thank you.
Interestingly, the newly released edition of L’un contre l’autre is already being promoted as “the sequel to the Prime film” — but that refers to the continuation of the story in book form, NOT confirmation of a second Prime Video movie.
Is You + Me: Against The World Worth Watching?
For me?
Absolutely.
And what surprised me most is that I didn’t love it simply because Alma falls for the bad boy.
We’ve seen that story.
I loved it because underneath those familiar tropes is a story about freedom, expectation, privilege, identity, sacrifice and two people whose completely different lives expose what the other one is missing.
Alma seemingly has everything except control over her own future.
Vadim seemingly has freedom but lacks the security Alma has always taken for granted.
Neither character is quite what the other assumes.
And somewhere amongst filmmaking assignments, secrets, family pressure, anonymous threats and some VERY good romantic tension, they begin changing one another.
That’s the bit that stuck with me.
The Pass The Pop Verdict 🍿
You + Me: Against The World gave me exactly what I wanted from a Friday romance release — and then gave me considerably more story than I expected.
The chemistry works. The tropes work. Alma and Vadim work.
But most importantly, I actually care what happens to them next.
And that’s the difference between a romance I enjoy for 94 minutes and one I immediately start researching once the credits roll.
So yes, Prime Video.
More French romance adaptations.
More book-to-screen discoveries.
And PLEASE give us more Alma and Vadim.
Because we’re from different worlds?
Fine.
But I’m not ready for those worlds to stay apart.
