There are some Netflix titles that immediately make you pause at the name alone – Between Father & Son is one of those.
This was a series that I wanted to watch but also felt like I shouldn’t – If you know…you know.
On paper, it sounds like a very specific kind of story — a psychological thriller with a forbidden romance at its centre, mixed with family secrets and a missing person mystery.
And if that already feels like a lot… it kind of is.
But it’s also the kind of series that’s easy to understand why people end up clicking on it.

What the series is about (in simple terms)
The story follows Bárbara, a successful lawyer who is engaged to Álvaro.
Before their wedding, she travels with him to meet his family at their estate.
That’s where things start to shift.
She finds herself drawn into an unexpected connection with Iker — Álvaro’s son — while also being pulled into a wider situation involving the disappearance of Álvaro’s wife, who was believed to be dead but may not be.
So the series runs on two threads:
- A developing, complicated emotional connection that shouldn’t really exist
- A family mystery built around secrets, uncertainty, and unanswered questions
It’s less about one big twist and more about how those two storylines slowly overlap.
🍿
This isn’t a fast-paced thriller in the traditional sense.
It’s more of a slow build, where tension comes from conversations, silences, and what isn’t being said.
At the same time, the episodes are short — averaging around 7 minutes — which makes it very easy to watch in small bursts rather than long sessions.
It works well if you’re watching on the go, or just want something you can dip in and out of without committing to hour-long episodes.

This kind of series will likely appeal if you enjoy:
- Forbidden romance storylines
- Psychological thriller setups with emotional tension
- Family drama with hidden secrets
- Short-form bingeable series formats
- International Netflix dramas
If you prefer straightforward romance or clean-cut storytelling, it may not fully land in the same way — but if you like layered relationships and slow reveals, it might be worth adding to your watchlist.
🍿
Final thoughts
It sits in that middle space between romance and thriller, where the focus is less on clear answers and more on watching how relationships and secrets develop over time.
And depending on what you enjoy watching, that balance might be exactly what makes it interesting — or not quite your thing.
Honestly – I ended up enjoying this one – possibly because I didn’t have any expectations let alone high ones! The intimate moments were steamy, the background mystery kept me intrigued and I enjoyed that I could get through the episodes quick enough that it felt like a very ‘productive’ binge-watch session!
